About the Port of Quebec

The city of Quebec is home to the oldest port in all of Canada. For over 150 years, cargo has been an important part of the Quebec City economy. Today, several different port terminals are in full operation in and around the downtown area. Visitors to Quebec City will not only fall in love with the city's old style French charm, they will be able to take a cruise along the Saint Lawrence Seaway or to other destinations.

The port itself is divided into several sectors. The Beauport Sector is home to shipping and receiving activities for American Iron & Metal, Rio Tinto Alcan, and Vale Inco. The Estuary Sector is full of activity by Bunge of Canada. The North Shore Sector houses the Canadian Coast Guard fleet assigned to the city, and the South Shore Sector is the headquarters for Davie Quebec and Ultramar.

In recent years, cruise service between the Saint Lawrence Seaway and ports in New England and New Brunswick has become increasingly popular. The industry is booming because of much promotion by several cruise lines. Visitors from the northeastern United States and the Canadian Provinces of Quebec and Ontario make up the largest percentage of cruise passengers.

Cruise operators include Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean. The most popular cruise destinations are Halifax, New York City, St. John, Bar Harbor, and Charlottetown.

The cruise terminal is located in the Old City district, near many of the popular hotels and landmarks. Parking is available nearby, and shuttle service operates between the cruise terminal and the airport.

Some of the popular visitor attractions near the cruise terminal and waterfront include the Quebec Notre Dame Church, City Museum, Quebec Parliament Building, cable car depot, and several of the most frequented city parks.
