About the Port of Montreal

Constructed in 1830, the Port of Montreal is one of the largest and oldest ports in Canada. Due Montreal's status as a railway hub for several railroads, much of the incoming goods for the more populated eastern Canada originate in the Port of Montreal. The port recently underwent a major renovation and expansion to coincide with its increase of trade with the United States. The billions of dollars generated via the trade makes the port a major economic magnet and employer.
Many attractions are featured both in the port and the surrounding city and capital of Montreal via a world class public mass transportation system. A number of companies offer boat cruises and tours of the historic "Old Port" and St. Lawrence River year round with the except of Winter. A major draw is the Iberville Passenger Terminal, a major cruise ship hub that offers several river cruises, as well as a number of routes to the United Kingdom and other major European cities. A center of culture, Montreal feature several festivals every year, the highlights of the festival calendar being the Montreal Film Festival and annual Montreal En Lumiere Festival. The city also features the National Hockey League team the Montreal Maple Leafs. With reasonably priced tickets and top notch players a Maple Leafs' game makes a thrilling outing when the team is in season, from October to April.
